Our Mission
The mission of the Graduate Engineering Mechanics Society (GEMS) is to establish a student-exclusive platform – an academic oasis where faculty members, regrettably, can’t attend. Our ambition is to cultivate a supportive, low-stakes environment enabling students to present their research findings, explore novel research avenues, and nurture an interdepartmental graduate community.
Designed with inclusivity in mind, GEMS opens its arms to students across all levels of study, particularly first-year students seeking to plunge into the exciting world of research. We aim to stimulate dynamic networking among graduate students, providing opportunities for them to share their research interests, exchange insightful advice, and pool resources throughout their academic journey.
What We Are Doing
We organize weekly GEMSeminar during the fall and spring semesters. These seminars provide students a stage to present their mechanics research and acquire constructive feedback from their peers. Our current research topics span solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, materials science, and biomechanics. We welcome related or novel topics of interest to enrich our community. If you seek to rehearse your group meeting, conference, preliminary exam, thesis defense, or simply wish to share intriguing findings, you’ve come to the right place.
Contact Us
Should you have any questions or wish to connect with us, don’t hesitate to drop an email to gems.mech@gmail.com or any of our Current Board Members. We’re eager to hear from you!
Join us in building bridges between disciplines, expanding the boundaries of knowledge, and shaping the future leaders of engineering mechanics. Together, we are GEMS.
